Why I Started Corrupt Companions
Campfire time!
One day I started thinking to myself, where the hell has the grit and roughness of being a man gone? When did we stop being protectors and leaders for the younger generation? And then a light switch turned on.It went away when we stopped holding ourselves accountable for our own lives. I even looked at myself and said, “Would I survive in the Old West with my current mindset?” Sadly, I had to tell myself no.
I’d become soft and definitely a lot less observant than I used to be. When I think of the Old West, I think of men getting after it—whether it was legal or illegal. They were tough as leather and mentally as strong as an ox.
Despite some men being outlaws, a lot of them had a fear and respect for God, no matter how wayward they were. Then I started thinking about my relationship with the Creator and realized it had become nonexistent. You had to believe in God if you were in the West—ain’t no doubt about it.So I challenged myself with rallying up a posse of like-minded men who could lean on each other, no matter how far apart they were. And with that, Corrupt Companions was created.
Where’d the Name Come From?
We all go wayward at some point, and not one man on this earth who’s worth anything gets to go through life without falling short or ultimately making bad decisions, no matter the magnitude.
1 Corinthians 15:33 says: “Do not be deceived: ‘Bad company corrupts good morals.’”
Well, I’m still trying to figure out if I’m a corrupt companion—or just a man who’s lived a hard life.
